Sandwich Panels: An Insulating Engineering

Nowadays, Sandwich panels are widely accepted insulation technology in modern construction era. These panels are consisting of two thin layered metallic / non-metallic sheets in variety of combinations namely Galvalume Steel, Galvanized Steel, Stainless Steel, Aluminium etc. which are glued by insulating core materials. Most commonly insulating materials used are known as Polyurethane (PUF) /Polyisocyanurate (PIR) and Rockwool / Mineral Wool. These core materials have variable thickness and densities as per end application needs.

These are multi-layered structure and each component is having different mechanical and chemical properties. This enhance the effect of thermal efficiency and reduce the temperature inside the building. As compared to the conventional roofing and cladding system, sandwich panels are much eco-friendlier, as they are in-house shop fabricated and easily transported & installed at site.

Sandwich panels are also known as composite panels.  It creates a composite bond between outer and inner layer in combination with core material, which enhance the load bearing capacity and provide more strength. These panels are designed by considering all load bearing factors along with wind speed, terrain category, seismic zone etc.

There are various properties involved which makes these panels, the most preferred construction choice for roofing solutions. In PIR / PUR panels, temperature resistance is one of the most important aspect. Due to difference in outer and inner surface temperature, thermal expansion effect also varies on both sides, which make these panels more thermal efficient. Apart from thermal efficiency these panels are very good fire retardant. Rockwool Panels can easily provide 1-3 hours of fire rating.
